The speaker and vice speaker are responsible for overall administration of the elections. Voting is conducted by secret ballot.

Erick A. Eiting, MD, has been actively involved in organized medicine for over 20 years. He has held various leadership positions at local and national levels since he was a medical student. In 2020, he was elected to the AMA Council on Medical Service by his peers in the House of Delegates. His passions include health system reform, improving physician payments (we should get paid fairly for our hard work!), and reducing structural barriers to improve access to care for vulnerable patients.

He oversees clinical operations in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where he is a professor. He was recognized for his exceptional work during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Dr. Eiting initially joined the AMA Council on Medical Service in 2010 as a resident, shortly after the Affordable Care Act was signed into law. At this time, the council underwent a tremendous effort to align AMA policy and address policy gaps to prepare for the changes resulting from this legislation.

Additionally, he recently completed his term as president of New York County Medical Society. He used this role as a platform to improve access to care, including vaccines and treatment, during the MPOX outbreak in New York City in 2022. Within his department, he developed a curriculum to improve documentation and physician reimbursement following the E/M changes made in 2023.
